The Demonization Of CO2

One of the arguments for the claimed climate emergency is that carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are causing global warming and this is “anthropogenic”, due to human activity. Global warming alarmists claim that if the atmospheric concentration of carbon dioxide continues to rise, it will result in a significant increase in global temperatures, making the planet unlivable.

“The world will end in 12 years, if we don’t address climate change.” – Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio Cortez

Climate doomsdayers made the most dramatic predictions in the 1970’s. “This cooling has already killed hundreds of thousands. If no strong action is taken, it will cause world famine, world chaos and world war and this could all come about before the year 2000,” – Lowell Ponte, 1976

Carbon dioxide emissions have indeed increased since the beginning of the industrial revolution. CO2 is one of the greenhouse gases, it causes the atmosphere to trap heat, by absorbing infrared radiation. The main cause of carbon dioxide emissions is the burning fossil fuels, coal, oil and natural gas.

(Eliminating fossil fuels is the rationale for switching to electric vehicles. But EVs are worse for the environment, than gas powered vehicles. See this, this and this.)

CO2 concentration went from 280 ppm in the 1950s to 480 ppm in 2020, a sharp increase.

But the most important greenhouse gas isn’t CO2, it is water vapor, along with clouds it is responsible for 65% – 85% of the greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide is a trace gas, it makes up only 0.004% of the atmosphere.

Global temperatures have increased slightly since 1980, approximately 0.5 Celsius. This is a minor increase, that is due to natural fluctuation. Geological archives reveal, that earth’s climate has varied, ever since the planet existed, with warm and cold phases.

From 2014 on there has been a slight cooling. The black line represents CO2. When temperatures drop, the CO2 line continues upward, it does not correlate with temperature. If carbon dioxide was responsible for temperature increase, the two lines would be parallel.

Since CO2 started to rise due to human activity at the end of the 19th Century, there have been two global cooling trends. Following WWII, the number of motor vehicles on the road and fossil fuel burning increased significantly. Yet, despite of that surge in CO2, the planet cooled. Therefore, CO2 can not cause global warming. The area in red represents carbon emissions. (Source)

Let’s go even further back in history. The next graph depicts global temperatures and CO2 during the last 11,000 years. The straight, green line is the CO2 median. The small uptick on the left end of the green line is the increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide in the last 100 years.

The public is being told, that the planet is hotter now, than it has ever been. That is false, the planet has been hotter in the past, than today. The “little ice age” ended in the 1900s, therefore the recent increase in temperatures is also a recovery from a cooling phase.

Next, let’s zoom out even more and review climate data from the last 500 Million years.

[Researchers estimate ancient temperatures using data from climate “proxy” records, natural archives, such as rocks, coral skeletons, glacial ice cores, fossils, tree rings, or sea sediments].

Atmospheric CO2 was even higher during the Paleozoic period, and it can’t be attributed to human activity. The high CO2 didn’t cause high surface temperatures.

Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant, it is essential for all life. The increase of CO2 in the air has promoted growth of global biomass. NASA satellites show that green foliage on the planet increased by 5% during the last 20 years – equivalent to the area covered by the entire Amazon rainforest. Owners of large greenhouses purchase CO2, because it makes plants grow faster.

The “Cambrian Explosion”, an unparalleled emergence of organisms, when most of the major groups of animals appeared on fossil records, occurred 500 Million years ago, when the concentration of CO2 was higher, than today.

Climate alarmists and their globalist puppet masters chose to demonize carbon dioxide, because the increase in CO2 is the result of human activity, therefore they can blame us for it.

Inducing guilt and shame in people is disempowering, it is a psychological manipulation. It creates a distraction and motivates the public to consent to policy changes, the elite wants.
